Hi y’all!
You may or may not have noticed that every Talisman Spray in the shop now says “Made to Order” and to save you from going to the shop and clicking the product description, since you’re already here on the blog, I’ll briefly explain the how and why of this change!
Since starting this journey, I have always produced a small number (no more than five) of Talisman Sprays at a time, and put them in the shop as I made them.
When they were sold, the spray would be listed as “Out of Stock” and you’d have the option of signing up to be notified via email when it was back in stock, thereby also letting me know that it was in demand.
And that worked out fine!
In theory, at least.
But the thing is, when you’re producing such tiny batches, having anything in stock doesn’t really make any sense.
First of all, there’s the chance of a product not selling and then expiring while just sitting around.
As a one person business, I simply can’t afford to make a product just to have to throw it out, or give it away to friends, and throwing away anything doesn’t align with my values either.
Second, I don’t have the funds to always have every ingredient available to me.
Good essential oils aren’t cheap and my sprays contain a lot of them.
And these things expire too!
By switching to a “Made to Order” model, I can purchase whatever oils, preservatives or other ingredients I don’t currently have available as a new order comes in, and still have time to produce and macerate the spray within the suggested time frame, giving me the space to purchase and produce without stress, while making sure that the customer gets the freshest, most long lasting product possible.
I’ve set the production time to three weeks, and while I think that’s a reasonable and doable time frame, it may be a little more, it may be a little less.
Customers will be kept in the loop, of course!
The potential downside of this is that I can’t deliver anything in time for, say, a birthday coming up, or some other special event that’s time sensitive.
But the reality is that I was never able to compete with big brands and next day deliveries, so I might as well do what works for me and my energy (and financial) budget, and what I think will yield the best quality sprays!
I hope you agree, and please feel free to get in touch with any questions!
